Lord, What About This Man?

by Ralph I. Tilley

“Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out you hands and someone else will gird you,
and bring you where you do not wish to go.” Now this He said, signifying what kind of death he would glorify God….

Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them;….
So Peter seeing him said to Jesus, “Lord, and what about this man?”

Jesus said to him, “If I want him to remain until I come,
what is that to you? You follow Me!”

--John 21:18-23 (NASB)

How God chooses to lead others
Is not for me to question;
For He is the sovereign Lord
And leads by His own direction.
It is not for me to ask,
“Lord, what about this man?”

Spirit-gifts and fields of service
Have been carefully assigned
To each of His own children
By a Father who’s good and kind.
It is not for me to ask,
“Lord, what about this man?”

If for me the path He’s chosen
May seem difficult and hard,
I’m glancing at my brothers
Instead of gazing on the Lord.
It is not for me to ask,
“Lord, what about this man?”

God has called none of His children
To quiz Him on these matters,
But to only follow Christ,
Trusting Him to guide our brothers.
It is not for me to ask,
“Lord, what about this man?”
