The Truly Happy

by Ralph I. Tilley

(A paraphrase of Psalm 1)

The man who does not order his life
on the basis of ungodly advisors,
      nor hang out with God-rejecters,
nor have fellowship with the profane—
this man is blessed by God
      and is truly happy.

This blessed and truly happy man
gets more excited over the truth
      and wisdom of God
         than anything else in life.
He delights in God's truth so much
that he ponders it again and again.

Because he takes God and His ways seriously,
this blessed and truly happy man
will become so grounded in God
that he will be abundantly creative and productive.
Even when life is tough and difficult,
God will cause him to flourish.

Conversely, those who reject God and His advise
   are without substance and stability;
therefore they will fail the great Inspection—
their lives were but a sham.
God will not allow them to
coexist with His people in their eternal Home.

The Lord approves of the way
   of the truly happy man—
      the one He himself blesses—
the one who is God-centered in all he does.
But for those who live without reference to God—
all their dreams and pursuits will go up in flames.
