To live my life to please the Master
Should be my controlling ambition;
Regardless of the circumstances,
Pleasing Christ should be my sole passion.
Whatever my status or calling,
Wherever Providence has placed me
The Lord’s grace is more than sufficient
To strengthen my heart for the journey.
Am I afflicted or much oppressed?
Am I tempted to lose heart and zest?
Will I falter in running this race?
Or will I trust Christ in this sore test?
The skilled Adversary, on the prowl,
Is roaring like a hungry lion;
He stalks those who are wounded the most
And pounces when ripe our condition.
If I should fail in pleasing the Lord,
The Spirit will be put to some grief;
Like a dove when offended and hurt,
He takes His flight till given relief.
Since it brings great joy to God’s own heart
When His dear children choose to please Him,
The shield of faith I’ll hold, by His grace,
Until the day I rise to meet Him.
