Our High Priest

by Ralph I. Tilley

(Based on the Letter to the Hebrews)

(4:15; 5:2)   As Sympathizer with our weaknesses,
                         He was tempted in every way;
                    As Overcomer of all that's evil,
                         He's gentle with those gone astray.

(7:24-25)   As Conqueror of death and destruction,
                         He lives as a permanent Priest;
                    To save sinners completely He's able,
                         Intercessor for all the least.

(7:26)         As Meeter of all our deep-seated needs,
                         His credentials are unequaled;
                    This One who is holy, pure and blameless,
                         Above the heavens is exalted.

(7:27)         The Presenter was He of His body—
                         Once-for-all as sin's atonement.
                    Of all Aaron's descendents He's Greater;
                         His blood was without defilement.

(10:12, 14)   Royally seated at the Father's right hand,
                         As Author of our salvation;
                    Perfecter of all being made holy,
                         He is without comparison.

(10:19-22)   Since we have such a Priest as Christ the Lord,
                         To God by Him let us come near—
                    With faith made strong and a conscience cleansed,
                         Bodies washed and a heart sincere.
