You say you want to go deeper
Than you have ever gone before,
To plumb the depths of God vaster
His love and holiness explore?
You long to be more like Jesus,
Reflecting daily His image
Aspiring to His own likeness,
Emulating our Lord's visage?
Your desire is to be fruitful,
Bringing joy to your Father's heart?
Like Christ, you want to be faithful,
Serving others, doing your part?
Then, for now, be very still . . .
Is your will to let God crush you,
To bruise where your ego's entrenched,
To die to the I inside you,
To repent of His Spirit quenched?
If so, walk up Calvary's hill,
Leaving sin and selfism behind.
There, let God in you something kill,
Till He can form in you Christ's mind.
You must never leave that hill . . .
